LikeMinds Humanist Organization

About

The LikeMinds is a Non-governmental, Non-partisan and Non-religious Humanist Organization. They are basically concerned with advocacy for self-education, reason, humanism and peaceful coexistence among people of all races, tribes, creeds and religions; as well as inculcating the idea that every human being has the responsibility to take charge of their own life and give meaning to it.

Founded by Nelson Eniola Ichrene on April 5th, 2013, they have the nonexclusive mandate of easing the existing friction within human interaction as a result of racial, cultural and religious differences. They seek to foster intellectual and human capital/capacity development through the application of logic and reasoning, particularly towards the development of Third World Countries.

They teach religious tolerance by admonishing partners to be best adherents of whatever faith they belong to, affirming that our commonalities far outweigh our differences, and the human race must focus on what unites us all, instead of what divides us. They are poised to impart government, religious/nonreligious organizations and society, by exposing individuals and corporate entities to the role of self education, especially in leadership and personal development. To deliver this ideology, they consider several viable tools including book authorship, public lectures, leadership courses, science seminars, audio programs, movie and music.
Their theme centres around enlightenment, inspiration and motivation.

Background and Formation

The mastermind behind The LikeMinds is Nelson Eniola "Prof" Ichrene; an engineer, scientist, philosopher, author, leadership expert, public speaker, Life coach, pastor and humanist.

Over the years, Mr. Nelson has observed with keen interest the problems associated with human interaction. He concluded that these problems are rooted in the inherent tendency of people to claim absolute superiority in their own beliefs, culture, race, gender, tribe and religion, etc. These “beliefs” often do not have empirical backing or objective proof, but people still held on to them anyways. And this has proven over the years to be the leading cause of the thick lines of division among the human race - the neglect of logic and reason, especially in the African region, has been found to be a major cause of the high level of backwardness and retrogression on the continent.

He affirmed that, "Every culture or religion is about absolute belief in its own superiority and the divine right to impose its version of ‘truth’ upon others. For one's own culture or religion to be right, the thousands of other cultures had to be wrong, which then sets people against people and informs a divided world; also the same conviction that one has about one’s own religion is the conviction that others have about theirs, and people have converted from one faith to another, and vice versa, with every religion continuing to claim to be the only true path to God...

...this poses a great challenge for humanity, and is equally leading to some extremists, past and present, doing unimaginable things for their version of God.”

To reconcile these differences, he established that reason is a common quality that is bestowed upon humanity by God, and that to foster a peaceful and progressive world, reason must be given a higher value than dogma or superstition. To this end he organized a meeting with Kingsley Manyo, Taribo Orubo, Willie Johnwill, and Fortune Joshua, to collectively address, brainstorm and proffer solutions to these rising differences that have plagued the world, especially the African landmass.

During their sessions, they discovered that people who resorted to the use and authority of reason would almost certainly agree on basic issues that affect humanity, in contrast to mere belief. In their findings, they concluded that reason is the “Court of Appeal” where we take our individual and often divisive opinions to, and that education is the only valid socially acceptable approach.

They then established the LHO, as a frontier force of African extraction, to advocate self-education and promote progressive values for people of all races, tribes, creeds and religions, as well as curb the excesses of ideological extremists through the persistent application of logic and reasoning. As humanists, their credence stresses the potential value and goodness of human beings, emphasizes common human needs, and seeks solely rational ways of solving human problems.
